Elliott Erwitt
Elliott Erwitt

An American photographer, his real name Elio Romano Erwitz, and he was born in 1928 in Paris, France.

The son of Russian emigrants, Erwitt spent the first ten years of his life in Italy, but in 1940 his family settled in Los Angeles. At only fifteen years of age he opens his first photography studio. Years later, he moved from California to New York, where he met photographers such as Robert Capa and E. Steichen, and turned to commercial photography, an area he never abandoned.

After leaving the US Army, where he was a photography assistant, he joined the Magnum agency in 1953, where he would end up as president in 1966.

Erwitt's photographs have one constant: humour. In everyday scenes, at the beach, in ceremonies, he shows the flaws and uncertainties of reality. Among his vast work, Son of Bitch stands out. A work in which Erwitt photographs with scathing humour dogs in situations that show the relationship of these animals with the human world.

Erwitt's work is preserved almost entirely in New York's Museum of Modern Art.
