Mário Cláudio
Mário Cláudio, the pseudonym of Rui Manuel Pinto Barbot Costa, was born in Porto in 1941. He attended the Law Course in Lisbon, having finished it at the University of Coimbra. He attended the University of London, graduating as a Master of Arts. After returning to Portugal, he has worked as a technician at the National Museum of Literature and as a university professor. He won the APE Prize for Romance and Novel in 1984 with the work Amadeo. He is considered one of the most important Portuguese authors of the last two decades. Although he devoted himself to poetry, theater and essays, it is in the novel that Mário Cláudio has become more prominent. In 2004 he was awarded the Fernando Pessoa Prize.
