António Mega Ferreira

A writer, a manager and a journalist, António Mega Ferreira was born in Lisbon in 1949.  He studied Law and Social Communication, and he was a journalist at the newspapers Jornal Novo, Expresso and O Jornal, and at the Portuguese public service broadcasting organisation RTP, where he headed the newsroom of the TV channel RTP2. He was the editor-in-chief of the newspaper JL - Jornal de Letras, Artes e Ideias. He founded the magazines Ler and Oceanos. He headed the Lisbon candidacy for Expo'98 and became the executive commissioner of the World Exposition. He was the president of Parque Expo, the Oceanário de Lisboa and Atlântico, Pavilhão Multiusos. From 2006 to 2012 he chaired the Fundação Centro Cultural de Belém. He currently serves as executive director of AMEC/Metropolitana. He has published more than thirty books from several genres, including fiction, essay, poetry, and chronicles. In 2001 he was awarded the Camilo Castelo Branco Grand Prize for his book of short stories A Expressão dos Afectos. His most recent works are Hotel Locarno, Itália – Práticas de Viagem (Sextante), and O Essencial sobre Dante Alighieri (INCM).
